Project Have Hope

Project Have Hope works with a group of 100 women in the Acholi Quarter of Uganda and helps them transform their lives and the lives of their families. Through the sale of their beautiful, handmade paper bead jewelry, the women can feed their families, send their children to school, and look forward to a richer future.

2012 Annual Report

2012 was an eventful year for Project Have Hope. We embarked on a partnership with the Uganda Child Cancer Foundation and are continuing our fundraising efforts on their behalf through our Hope Cures Collection of cancer awareness bracelets. We introduced solar cooking techniques to the Acholi community and we wrapped up our adult literacy program. We enrolled 8 women in vocational training programs, including the rigorous designing course which, upon their graduation this spring, will give 4 women a skill which is in great demand in Uganda. We also hit the “million dollar” mark. We have now raised more than $1,050,000! To learn more about our work in 2012, download a copy of our annual report here.

Ayoo Jennifer Akello, a recent graduate of the vocational training program in knitting, can now make and sell school uniform sweaters. She needs seed money to buy the machine and other tools to start her business. $175 can make that possible.

Hope Cures

Project Have Hope is partnering with the Uganda Child Cancer Foundation (UCCF) and is launching our newest collection - Hope Cures. These vibrant colored bracelets raise awareness of cancer, including melanoma and breast cancer, and show your support for fighters, survivors and their caregivers. One dollar from each Hope Cures bracelet purchased is donated to UCCF to provide emotional, financial and social support, and mobilize resources to improve the children's quality of life.

GlobalGiving

We have two active projects on GlobalGiving. The newest project raises funds for solar cooking tools and water purification indicators, which will reduce the women's reliance on charcoal, decrease their exposure to smoke, and increase their access to safe water. The second project continues to fundraise for vocational training opportunities to give our members a chance to gain new skills, start small businesses, and become self-sufficient.
